I'm trying to think of a name for the Coffee House I plan on opening in the future. I want it to be something edgy, catchy, and something easy to remember. Hmmmm.....I have had a few thoughts but nothing has really stuck yet. Maybe there is a website of some coffee "slang" or something. If anyone had some input I would appreciate any suggestions.

As I have seen in China, same as any other countries I believe, many baristas do not really know what they are doing, so I can understand why the boss won't pay more to them. If their work can be done by any one who are new after a few days of advising, no one would pay more than a waiter/waitress.
There are always baristas who like their work and spend a lot of time and effort to learn, to improve their knowledge and brewing skills. But, many others not. It is reasonable to get a job for their…

Alright folks, today is Monday. The weekend is over and there is nothing we can do. Some people have no problem with it, on the other hand there are baristas and coffee shop owners that consider every now and then how to stab their co-workers and clients with a tamper!
Take it easy MacGyver! Put your tamper do…

It is believed that a Frenchman invented the Coffee French Press or Coffee Press somewhere around the late 1800s. Back then the easiest way to make coffee – pretty much anywhere in the world -- was by boiling the coffee in water and allowing the grounds to settle (Turkish Method).
By a s…

This is a very nice true history that I found out a few weeks ago about brazilian’s coffee origin.
Back in 1727, coffee was a very rare spice, produced by just a very few countries. At that time, only Suriname and French Guiana were coffee growers in South America.
In that same year, Maranhão’s governor João Maia da Gama sent Sergeant Francisco de Melo Palheta to French Guiana to reestablish the brazilian frontier according to the Utrecht Treaty, and also as a secret agent to get some coffee s…

Starbucks has a lot of controversy, especially within the professional coffee world, and I understand that fully. I'm often looked down upon by both professionals and by Starbucks baristas alike because I worked for a licensed (almost like a franchise but not quite) Starbucks store. So I'm writing this blog to clear up what my purpose is for working at such a place, and my plans for the future.
First off, my paychecks are signed by the Kroger owned company Fred Meyer, a Northwestern grocery sto…

I love the French Press with a nice Columbian. It's great in the morning. So as I sit and drink my cup, I can't help but be a little bitter about my barista position since the beginning of the year. Ramble on.
Yeah. I lost my barista job on January 1st. I didn't get fired. The damn place went out of busniess. Since then, I've been working as a pizza delivery driver, which is cool, but definitely not as cool as being a barista. There was something about my job at the CoffeeSmith that really got…

My Career has just taken another step forward...
Despite the step back I took a month and a half ago when the roaster I was roasting for went bankrupt and I slipped into a non-profit cafe, things are looking up again.
I just recently stopped by Barefoot CRC and happened to grasp that they are desperate for full time baristas. I talked to the owner, and then the manager, and set up an interview for a few days later...
...The interview went great, the manager is excited to have someone genuinel…

Ode to Guatamala Antigua:
By Paul
Oh Guatamala! You are my fingle!*
You make smile
for quite a while,
and I'm so glad
your single.
On Rainy Days
I feel a haze
until my gaze
meets yours.
On Sunny Days
I wake up to meet
a smell oh so sweet!
Oh Fingle!
Your quite a treat.
On Holidays,
I like to drink a lot.
Oh Guatamla,
I'd like to drink you up;
every last drop.
But then I would be sad,
because you'd be no more.
The End

It was snowing this morning when I got up to come to the coffeehouse. We're in south metro Atlanta and it was 75 earlier this week - weird. Anyway, I was just thinking how coffee is the perfect career for people with a compulsive bent in their personality. The quest for the God Shot becoming the standard pull; the search for those hidden characteristics in each bean when you're roasting; the constant cleaning that goes with being a barista - all things that give my somewhat compulsive mental con…

I guess its growing up in the south and seeing my grandparents drinking a putrid, steaming cup of black gold or the Waffle House on every corner churning out cup after cup to sleepy, road hungry truckers that makes me have a sweet spot for a plain ole' cup of coffee. I see the fancy layering and intricate design techniques used to make todays finest drinks, but this is America and while our government is barely intact we still have a long heritage in coffee. So pick a day, any day and make it a…

Hello internet coffeeland! I'm Kaitee and I am a barista with, well, a month's experience. I adore working in a coffee shop though, and am trying to absorb as much info as humanly possible. I work for an independent store in metro Atlanta (barely ITP) that's been open in it's new location for, you guessed it, a month! Hopefully soon I will be baking a few vegan goodies for the store, but for now we carry regular pastries, panini sandwiches and vegan cookies. Uh, and coffee.
